NEW WEBSITE SUPPORTS MEDIA

COVERING SUBSTANCE ABUSE ISSUES

Resources Now Online at www.alcoholdrugnewsroom.org

As part of an ongoing effort to help the media cover complex alcohol and other drug issues, the San Diego County Substance Abuse Summit has launched a new Web site called the Substance Abuse Newsroom (www.alcoholdrugnewsroom.org).
The site offers resources on alcohol and other drugs to news agencies, including fact sheets, contact information, media kits and Web links to additional local and national resources. It also provides statistics on several drugs; briefings and reports; and information on local alcohol and drug services providers.
The site is supported by the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency's Alcohol and Drug Services, which also helps fund the Substance Abuse Summit. The Summit was created in 1995 as part of a long-term strategy to help reduce the personal, social and economic costs related to substance abuse in San Diego County.
This year's Summit will be held May 13-14 at the Town and County Hotel and Convention Center.
"Substance abuse costs county taxpayers billions of dollars every year," said Ron Roberts, Chairman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, who also is scheduled to speak at the Summit. "Awareness of the [problem, and potential solutions, is key to reducing the effect is has on abusers an the public at large."
For more information on the site or Substance Abuse Summit VII, call Ryan Hurd at (619) 474-8844, ext. 29, or email rhurd@publicstrategies.org. More information about the Summit is available at www.substanceabusesummit.com
